Hello, my name is Imogene Drummer. I am the Dean of Students at Excel High School. I have worked in several positions over my 36 years period at South Boston. My career with this school started in 1974, during the busing era when the school was being called South Boston High School. My first position was being a Transitional Aide to the building. At that time, I attended Newbury Junior College studying Secretarial Science in the evening. Later on, I also studied at Wilfred Academy’s School of Cosmetology, where I became a licensed beautician, and worked in a salon during the summer vacation. In the 80’s, I became as a Security Para, before joining the School Police Department. Then I became a Community Field Coordinator, in which I was assigned to one of the four small learning communities at South Boston High in 2001. In 2002, South Boston High School forms into three schools and it is being renamed as South Boston High School Educational Complex. I was assigned to Excel High School as a Community Field Coordinator, and three years later, I became the Dean of Students. My years here at “Southie High” are unforgettable, but very rewarding knowing that I took part in the entire transition of the school, from forced busing in 1974 until now.
